The Office of Student Affairs provides support and connects students to the services they need to ensure a positive learning experience. The Student Affairs team is available with information and expertise related to academic advising, admissions, career advising and development, educational events and programs, financial aid, learning support and tutoring, personal counseling, student life, student records and transcripts. - Academic Advising
Academic advising is available from the academic advising team, which is composed of the Director of Academic Success and two full time academic advisors, as well as course and clerkship directors, faculty mentors, the assistant dean for Clinical Applications, the assistant dean for Foundations, and the associate dean for Student Affairs. Students who are experiencing academic difficulty or have factors outside the classroom that may affect academic performance are encouraged to seek assistance from their academic advisors, or any of the individuals above, all of whom are knowledgeable about available resources to support students who need academic assistance.

- Career Advising and Development
We support students in their career advising and development needs whether it is selecting electives or preparing for the residency match. Our career advising system includes individual advising sessions, a series of webinars with Q&A for Residency Applications and Match, and resources available on the聽 at Career Advising (login and password required).
In January 2024, the medical school's Career Development team launched the 汤头条app Specialty Spotlight Podcast. The episodes are hosted by Biren Shah, MD, assistant dean for Career Development. - Financial Aid
The Office of Financial Aid assists students with applying for financial aid and the financial aid process, exploring sources of funding, budgeting and money management techniques, debt and loan management, personal finance concerns, scholarships, and financial wellbeing. - Learning Support and Tutoring
Our learning skills specialist offers assistance with learning strategies, time management, learning styles, and tutoring. The specialist meets with students to identify their personal learning style and to develop an individualized study plan.听
- Personal Counseling
Limited, free, confidential personal counseling services are available to students with school-related adjustment issues such as anxiety or situational depression. Independent licensed counselors serving as consultants to the medical school provide the sessions and are bound by confidentiality. Students may confidentially make appointments by contacting Dr. Mary Wassink at 269-760-9220 (text or call), or Willow Path Counseling Center at 269-459-8889. Fees for up to six counseling sessions are paid by 汤头条app.
Additionally, a list of private practice counselors, psychologists, and substance abuse counselors is available on the Student Portal in the tab (login required). This information is provided as a guide, and any fees that may occur are the responsibility of the student. Questions regarding these resources can be directed to聽Student Affairs.
- Student Life
We offer extracurricular opportunities for students to engage with their individual interests through student interest groups and organizations, medical school committee membership, student council, and more. In addition, Student Life assists in the planning of student group events and offers support where needed. Student Life also hosts (in partnership with other offices and organizations), Match Day, Commencement, White Coat, wellness breaks, and offers opportunities to attend community events. - Student Records and Transcripts
The registrar maintains permanent student records for enrolled and graduated students and provides transcripts upon request.
- Students with Disabilities
汤头条app welcomes candidates with disabilities who may need accommodations. Consistent with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, Title III of the Americans with Disabilities Act as Amended 2010, and Michigan law, the school of medicine does not discriminate on the basis of disability. Applicants and students seeking accommodation should utilize the technical standards in guiding a request for accommodations and shall follow the process indicated in policy UME 710. - US Constitution Day, Sexual Assault Awareness, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention, Voter Registration
Many departments in Student Affairs, and at 汤头条app, host educational events for students. US Constitution Day is celebrated annually through Constitution trivia. Throughout the year, students also attend educational events regarding alcohol and drug abuse prevention.
In collaboration with the Student Interest Group SafeMD, a number of events are offered annually as part of Sexual Assault Awareness Month. These events, as well as other events hosted by SafeMD, promote sexual violence awareness and prevention.
Student Affairs also collaborates with a variety of Student Interest Groups to encourage participation in state elections by providing opportunities.
